Three Writers We Keep Telling You You Have To Know

I’ve mentioned before that this year Thrice will begin presenting carefully chosen, hand-crafted stand-alone books that are in danger of being forgotten.
Many publishing houses do reprints of great works currently in the public domain. They reprint classic titles and package them in a way specifically meant to claim a handsome portion of a bookshelf and blah blah blah. Reprinting the time-honored classics is not a new idea. Well, Thrice Publishing is joining that crowd.
But no one is going to do it like us.
We have been on a search for titles that aren’t always included in these kinds of collections. Books we feel need to be in the public eye but are often neglected by publishers and readers alike. Works that are no longer enjoyed by the crowd sometimes simply because people don’t know such things exist. Our big reveal will be coming soon.
But before we get into that, I’d like to quietly remind you of the books Thrice already has out there in the big bad world.
To start with, there is a novella by Joel Allegretti called Our Dolphin. A book that connects a magical creature to the Beat poets with sometimes unexpected twists and lyrical imagery.
Then there’s James Claffey’s The Heart Crossways, a deeper-than-usual look into the life of a working-class Irish family in the late twentieth century.
And thirdly our collection of personal letters, poems, performance pieces, and flash fiction by Lorri Jackson called So What If It’s True. The very best work of the Chicago slam poet who passed away in 1991 but has retained a dedicated cult following all these years later, and someone we personally miss and remember.
When we say “support the small press” we’re not just talking about Thrice, but also dozens of other micro and independent publishers who are putting work out there that deserves to be read. We’re also not just talking about saying it. / your public service announcement.

Add to this list our two anthologies of surrealist and outsider material, Narrow Doors In Wide Green Fields, and I Wagered Deep On The Run Of Six Rats To See Which Would Catch The First Fire. And why you don’t already have these last two in your collection is beyond me.
